My name is Kar Kar. My father once told me, “A dream is a picture of possibility, so dare to dream.”
As I come from a rural area where people generally lack opportunities, studying abroad never seemed attainable. However, over the years, I have come to understand how important it is to have the courage and determination to dream big. I now believe that this is the right time for me to pursue my ultimate goal.
Growing up in a village in Myanmar, a place mostly untouched by modern development and where the quality of education is limited, one of the biggest challenges people face is the lack of basic education. This often leads to early school dropouts, poor job security, and a loss of self-confidence, which can deepen poverty.
After finishing my matriculation examination, I dedicated myself to serving as a volunteer teacher at a middle school in my village. I worked closely with children who, despite their difficult circumstances, remain kind and humble.
Children in my village are often involved in household chores because there are few alternatives. With limited road access, the nearest high school is a four-hour walk away, and dropout rates are very high. There is no electricity, and access to education remains limited.
Believing that every child deserves education and the chance to dream, I joined Sagaing University of Education. This experience helped me understand the power of education and connected me to a wider network, enabling me to better support my community.
Since my first year at university, I have focused not only on my academic studies but also on working with organizations to learn and create impact. I have had opportunities to engage with various social issues and broaden my perspective.

One of my most meaningful experiences was participating in the Exploring Social Innovation (ESI) program in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. This experience showed me how innovation can help address social challenges. I also participated in international programs in Japan, China, Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia, which helped me develop valuable skills and a broader outlook.
As a country still developing in many areas, Myanmar has significant needs in community and social development. Issues related to gender, culture, and social norms require attention through education. I hope to contribute to building a more inclusive society.
I am especially interested in intercultural communication, social work, and global affairs. In today’s interconnected world, international cooperation is essential. I want to combine practical experience with academic learning through my studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
This field of study will help me strengthen my ability to give back to my community. After graduation, I hope to work as a social worker, focusing on reducing cultural stigma and supporting underdeveloped communities.
I am excited about the opportunity to study at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Its programs align closely with my goals, and I look forward to learning from both faculty and fellow students. I believe my experiences as a volunteer, leader, and team member have prepared me well for this journey.
I am ready to move forward with determination and continue working toward improving the lives of vulnerable communities in Myanmar.
