My name is Mol Mol. I was brought up in a marginalized community in Kayin State, Myanmar, where most people struggle to make ends meet. As a child, I was not aware of the importance of education.
When I was young, four of my siblings passed away due to malnutrition and preventable seasonal diseases. Many people in my village also passed away while traveling to the hospital in the city. Growing up in a community with a poor healthcare system, I gradually developed a passion to help others through healthcare and realized that education is the only way to achieve my dream.
Most members of my community still avoid medical treatment or rely on traditional remedies for short-term relief. As a result, many preventable and treatable illnesses worsen, leading to infections and death.
After finishing Grade 5, my parents wanted me to go to Bangkok and work, as many children in my village were sent there at a young age to support their families. However, I was fortunate to continue my education at a migrant school in Mae Sot, Thailand, with the support of my aunt.
Unfortunately, after my father was seriously injured in a car accident, his medical treatment placed my family in debt. I had no choice but to stop my education after high school and work as an undocumented migrant worker in Bangkok to help repay the debt. After working in various jobs for four and a half years, I was able to clear the debt and return to the Thai-Myanmar border to continue my education. I joined post-ten programs for migrants in Mae Sot, including Minmahaw Summer School and Youth Connect Foundation.
After completing these programs, I worked with NGOs in Mae Sot as a caseworker, translator, and teacher to support migrant communities.

What Others Are Saying About Mol Mol
While working as a translator at Mae Sot General Hospital, assisting a migrant patient receiving treatment, I was inspired to pursue my long-held dream of a career in the medical field. Meeting more patients further strengthened my goal to return and serve communities in need.
As a result, I applied to the Faculty of Nursing Science (International Program) at Chiang Mai University, where I am currently in my fourth year. However, I now need financial support to complete my studies and fulfill my goal of serving my community through the knowledge and skills I have gained in nursing.
In conclusion, my childhood and work experiences have shaped who I am today, with a strong passion to serve those in need as a nurse. Upon completing my studies, I am confident that I will be able to contribute meaningfully to the development of my community.
