Student Portrait

I come from Myanmar, where I earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Medicine in Mandalay. My journey has not been easy because of the conflict and unstable situation in my country, but these experiences have made me more determined to continue my education and support my community.

I am now pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health at Khon Kaen University in Thailand, while working as a Capacity Building Assistant Manager in Mae Sot with the Burma Medical Association, supporting health training and educational activities for community health workers.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was transitioning from a clinical background into a capacity-building role, where I had to train and support field health workers from different backgrounds, many of whom spoke different languages. At first, this affected my confidence. I simplified my communication style, used more visual materials, and incorporated practical demonstrations rather than relying on verbal explanations alone. I also sought support from colleagues who could help with translation and cultural context. Over time, the training sessions improved, and I built stronger relationships with my team.

Growing up, I learned the importance of helping others and staying strong during difficult times. Even when facing language barriers, limited opportunities, and uncertainty about the future, I kept learning and working to improve myself. I believe education is one of the most powerful ways to create positive change.

My goal is to expand my impact beyond clinical work by developing my skills in public health, digital communication, and content creation, so I can improve health education for underserved and conflict-affected communities. I see my medical experience and my current work in capacity building as a foundation for that mission, and I am committed to continuing to grow, not only for myself, but for the communities I serve.
