Student Portrait

I am Tia. I was born in Cebu City, Philippines, on the first day of September 2001. I am a young woman who loves marketing, business, and advertising arts.

I currently reside in Tokyo, Japan, due to my university studies. I came from a humble family wherein my mother raised both my sister and me alone for 13 years, which is why I want to give back to my mother in the future to repay her for all the sacrifices she made to help us get this far.

I have a strong work ethic which makes me resilient, versatile, diligent, and goal-oriented—giving me an edge over others. Often, my friends describe me as a profoundly serious person because of how hard-working I am. I agree with their sentiment since I am always committed to meeting my objectives for the day.

Among my weaknesses is that I sometimes over-commit myself and become overwhelmed by too many tasks! Regardless, I make up for my shortcomings by putting in twice as much effort.

I completed my junior high school with honors from the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in 2018. In addition, I was a recipient of the “Our Lady of Consolation” award for excellence in extra-curricular activities. In my last year of junior high school, I discovered my passion for leadership and worked to become the corps commander of the USJ-R Citizenship Advancement Training I Unit (CAT), which I earned after weeks of training while still in ninth grade.

During my term as head of the unit, I worked hard for the betterment of my fellow leaders and of the cadets. I needed to be critical in my decisions and strategic in how to deliver what was expected of me. Among the three corps commanders of the three organizations (CAT, GSP, and BSP), I was the sole awardee of the “Red Ribbon Leadership” award for outstanding leadership.

I was an accountancy, business, and management (ABM) student at the University of San Carlos senior high school-south (USC SHS-S). During this time, a feat I achieved was being elected as the USC SHS-S student council secretary. As a student leader, it was a privilege to be of service to my fellow Carolinians in those fleeting moments of my term.

Being part of the student council was exhausting since I needed to exert much effort to balance my studies and other responsibilities, but I delivered what was expected of me as the council secretary and as a student of the university. This experience helped me grow into a more responsible individual. It was a rewarding job in which I was able to develop my social skills, broaden my perspective, and improve my capabilities.

My future goal is to become a certified public accountant, and Zomia will help ease much of my financial burden as I begin to live on my own and prepare for my future.
